Author, essayist, and defender of Christianity C.S. Lewis. He is best known for creating the beloved children’s book series The Chronicles of Narnia. He had deep ties to Ireland that he never lost.

He actively pursued Celtic literature and myths and sought out the company of the Irish. When W.B. Yeats was still largely unknown in England, he was a fervent fan of his writings. Lewis received his education at both public and private institutions, including Malvern in Worcestershire.

The motivational quotations in this article are intended to encourage readers to pursue their potential and see it through, regardless of the situation they find themselves in.

Read C.S. Lewis quotes below;

What you see and what you hear depends a great deal on where you are standing. It also depends on what sort of person you are.

Love is something more stern and splendid than mere kindness.

Critics who treat ‘adult’ as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

God can’t give us peace and happiness apart from Himself because there is no such thing.

I have learned now that while those who speak about one’s miseries usually hurt, those who keep silence hurt more.

A children’s story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story in the slightest.

You can make anything by writing.

Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.

Love is not affectionate feeling, but a steady wish for the loved person’s ultimate good as far as it can be obtained.

You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.

It is a good rule after reading a new look, never to allow yourself another new one till you have read an old one in between.

To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.

It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.

We are not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be.

Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the burden: it is easier to say ‘My tooth is aching’ than to say ‘My heart is broken.

The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us

I can’t imagine a man really enjoying a book and reading it only once.

Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.

If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.

I think that if God forgives us we must forgive ourselves. Otherwise, it is almost like setting up ourselves as a higher tribunal than Him.

Atheism turns out to be too simple. If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found out that it has no meaning..

Courage, dear heart.

Don’t use words too big for the subject. Don’t say infinitely when you mean very; otherwise you’ll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite.

The future is something which everyone reaches at the rate of sixty minutes an hour, whatever he does, whoever he is.

A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.
